Tungsten Alloy Counterweight in Clock & Watch

Tungsten Alloy Counterweight in Clock & Watch Picture

Tungsten alloy counterweight in clock & watch is high-specific-gravity counterweight made from tungsten alloy for mechanical clocks and watches. The material typically contains 90%–97% tungsten as the matrix, with nickel, iron, or copper as binder phases, and is produced through powder metallurgy. CTIA's tungsten alloy counterweight uses the high density of tungsten alloy to concentrate greater mass within limited installation space. By adjusting local mass distribution, center-of-gravity position, or moment of inertia, it is suitable for mechanical clock pendulum weights, automatic watch oscillating weight (rotor) counterweights, and other movement balancing structures. It also offers good mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and lead-free material characteristics.

1. Features of CTIA's Tungsten Alloy Counterweight in Clock & Watch
(1) High Density Enabling Miniature Large Inertia: Density is 16.5–18.5 g/cm³ (approximately 2–2.3 times that of steel and 1.5 times that of lead). Under the same weight the volume is significantly reduced, facilitating embedding into oscillating weights, pendulums or narrow movement positions.
(2) Precisely Controllable Mass Distribution: Shape, thickness and installation position can be adjusted to optimize moment of inertia or oscillation period, improving timing accuracy and winding efficiency.
(3) Excellent Dimensional Stability: Coefficient of thermal expansion is low (approximately 4.5–5.5×10⁻⁶/°C). Precise dimensions are maintained under temperature variation environments, ensuring long-term stable operation.
(4) Machining Precision Meeting Watchmaking Requirements: Supports precision turning, grinding and microstructure processing. Dimensional tolerance can be controlled at a high level, adapting to precision assembly.
(5) Non-Toxic and Magnetic Options: The material is safe and harmless. Some W-Ni-Cu grades have relative magnetic permeability close to 1, reducing magnetic interference with precision movements.

2. Applications of CTIA's Tungsten Alloy Counterweight in Clock & Watch
(1) Automatic Mechanical Watches: Used in oscillating weight (automatic rotor) counterweights. Concentrated mass configuration regulates the moment of inertia of the oscillating weight to assist in improving automatic winding efficiency and power reserve.
(2) Ultra-Thin Mechanical Watches: Used in miniature oscillating weights and eccentric counterweight structures of ultra-thin movements to achieve greater mass configuration and precise inertia regulation within limited space.
(3) Complicated Mechanical Watches: Used as miniature mass balance components in complicated movements such as tourbillons, chronographs and perpetual calendars to meet precision structure requirements for counterweight mass and assembly accuracy.
(4) Mechanical Clocks and Pendulum Clocks: Used in pendulums and related mass regulation structures. Counterweight mass and position adjustment assist in optimizing oscillation state and timing stability.
(5) Precision Timing Instruments: Used in inertial regulation and balance structures of marine chronometers, astronomical clocks and other mechanical timing devices to meet precision timing mechanism requirements for mass distribution and operational stability.
